Argireline Cream: Anti-Wrinkle Alternative To Botox

Wrinkles on the face is a sign of skin aging. While Botox injections can be effective for treating facial wrinkles and lines, not everyone can afford this treatment and it may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening.

Dr Oz recommends argireline cream or serum as a safer and cheaper alternative to Botox treatment for crows feet or fine lines around your eyes.

What is Argireline?
Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8) is a hexapeptide formed from a chain of 6 amino acids. It mimics the action of botulinum neurotoxins (toxin produced by bacteria that results in muscle paralysis).

Botulinum neurotoxins used in Botox treatment are effective but they are highly toxic. This has led to the search and discovery of Argireline as a non-toxic topical alternative to Botox for treating eye wrinkles.

How Does Argireline Work?
Argireline prevents reduces the appearance of existing wrinkles and prevents new wrinkles by:
1. inhibiting formation of SNARE complex
Without SNARE proteins, nerves cannot release chemical signals that tell muscle cells to contract. This relaxes muscle and prevents formation of lines and wrinnkles.

2. inhibiting catecholamine release
Catecholamines are hormones secreted by the adrenal glands. The over production of catecholamines can cause wrinkles and fine lines.

Advantages of Argireline over Botox
- Non toxic
- Painless and non invasive
- Cheaper
- Suitable for people who have developed immunity to botulin toxin after long period of use

Efficacy of Argireline
In a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, an oil/water emulsion containing 10% of argireline reduced depth of wrinkle by up to 30% upon 30 days of treatment in healthy women volunteers.

In a study conducted by Center Chem, a 5% argireline cream was applied twice daily around the eyes of women volunteers for 28 days. This resulted in a 16% reduction in wrinkle depth.
