Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) & Weight Loss

What is Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)?

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is natural fatty acid found primarily in red meat and dairy products.

Unfortunately, factory farming and feeding grains and artificial feeds have reduced CLA production in cattle. Grass-fed meat can contain up to 4x as much CLA as grain-fed meat, and 1/3 lower in overall fat.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) & Weight Loss

CLA may aid weight loss by:

1. Reducing body fat
CLA blocks certain enzymes that promotes fat storage. Hence, fat is being released into the blood stream instead of being stored in fat cells.

2. Increasing lean muscle
The more muscle you have, the higher is your metabolism and calories burned.

There are mixed findings from numerous short and long term studies on CLA supplementation and weight loss.  Most studies showed reduction in body fat and waist size, and increase in lean muscle. Others found no significant changes in body composition.

As with any weight loss supplements, one product may work for one person and not for another. Therefore, you’d have to try it yourself in order to discover if a supplement, including CLA, helps you to achieve your goals.
