Benefits of DIM (Diindolymethane): The Super Antioxidant

DIM, a super antioxidant, was featured again on Dr Oz show. This is one of the favourite supplements of Dr Oz’s mother in law. On today’s show, Dr Julia Chen told Dr Oz that DIM can help to balance hormones and may prevent certain cancers.

(On a previous show,  Dr Oz  had talked about DIM supplement for getting rid of butt fat)

What is DIM (Diindolymethane)?
DIM (or Diindolymethane) is a phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale and brussels sprouts.

Benefits of DIM (Diindolymethane)
1. DIM has unique hormonal benefits for both men and women.

In female, DIM supports healthy estrogen hormone balance. Excess estrogen causes PMS, mood swing, menstrual cramps or difficulty in losing weight.

In male, DIM helps to eliminate active estrogen by converting it into ‘good’ estrogen metabolites.  These metabolites then free up testosterone, thereby increasing the testosterone-to-estrogen ratio. The combination of increased good’ estrogen metabolites and free testosterone speeds up fat metabolism, increases lean body mass and lowers abdominal fat.

2. Preliminary studies have shown the anti-oxidative and anti-cancer effects of DIM against, breast, ovarian and prostate cancer.

What Is The Best DIM Supplement?
Since DIM is highly insoluble, there are bioavailability and absorption issues. Hence, it is important to choose a high quality DIM supplement.

The best DIM supplement in the market is one that contains BioResponse DIM.

There are 2 reasons why BioResponse DIM is far more superior to generic DIM:
- It is the first and only US patented DIM formulation with proven absorption.
- All published clinical studies have only used the BioResponse patented DIM formulation. BioResponse DIM is the only DIM clinically tested in humans and is also the only DIM used in clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.

Recommended DIM Dosage
While it is best to get DIM from food sources, this is not always practical. You’d need to consume 2 pounds of cruciferous vegetables to get the daily recommended dosage of DIM. Moreover, it is more difficult to absorb DIM from diet as we age. Hence, Dr Chen recommends a DIM supplement.

Dr Chen’s recommnended dosage for DIM is:
- 100 mg daily, if you are at a healthy weight.
- 200 mg daily, if you are overweight or have health issues.
